When complete the Town Plan will set out what is important to the people, and could help bring their priorities into being. It also gives residents a chance to influence local decision-making without having to work through local government - which can have an agenda that is significantly different to local public opinion. If Skegness's eventual Town Plan demonstrates a need for something exists and is supported by residents, local government and other official bodies have take notice of that opinion. Town Plans are there to give the main funding bodies almost direct access to the public's opinions and priorities without them being filtered, edited, rewritten and slanted by all the political and economic interests that so often make up the "usual channels".
Potentially the Town Plan will be of great benefit to all organisations needing official funding in the Town, and it is hoped more people will come forward and get involved to create a real sense of community. |
